Bear Caves

We used clay, sticks and leaves to make caves for the bear from our bear hunt. The clay felt very cold and sticky but we had great fun shaping it by rolling it into a ball first and then pulling and pushing it into shape. We pushed a hole with our thumbs to make the entance and somewhere for the bear to sleep. We decorated our caves with leaves and twigs because we thought our bear might be hibernating now it's winter.
Can you remember what hibernate means?

Theatre Trip

We had a fantastic time at the theatre!

Which was your favourite part?

Lewis's Snowman

Look what Lewis brought into class last week! He made it with very little help.
We're very impressed Lewis!
Can you make something for Christmas and bring it in to show us?

What an exciting afternoon!

This afternoon the office received a phone call to say a growling sound had been heard by a neighbour by the trees.  Mrs Stretton thought we would be the best people to investigate.  This is what we did and what we found...

Were you scared or excited to find the bear?
Tell me if you think he was a lonely bear looking for a friend or if he was a scary bear about to eat us!

Arts Day

We had a drawing day and looked at all the different ways we could make lines. We used lots of different materials, both inside and out. We made long lines and short lines, thin lines and thick lines.

Can you find some different ways to make lines?
Tell me what you used.

A big thank you to the parents who joined us on Wednesday morning to find out how they could help their children use the blog :-)

Today we added a new character to the story 'Room on the Broom'.  We decided where we wanted our new character to go in the story and what they would find that the witch had lost. Then with a partner we retold our story with our new part added in, stepping each box from our story map as we told it.

Which character did you add to your story and what did they find that the witch lost?

Pyjamas and Breakfast

Today we came in to school early in our pyjamas and had breakfast together. It was very exciting and we are quite full now!

Our Illustrator Visit

On Wednesday we had a visit from the illustrator Stephen Waterhouse. He read one of his stories to us in assembly, 'The Runaway Chapatti' and then in the classroom we created our own characters and storyline after looking at his pictures.  We did some fantastic drawings and Stephen thought we were very good illustrators!

Which characters did you draw?

Who was your greedy character?

More or Less?

We have been using the words more and less in our number work this week. We played a game with the dice to decide who built a tower with more, less or sometimes the same amount of bricks.

Can you build two towers with Lego and say which has more and which has less?

The Singing Mermaid

We have learnt a new story at school. We painted pictures, made puppets and learnt how to draw a story map to help us remember the story!

Can you remember who the nasty character was in our story?  What did he do to the Singing Mermaid?

The Big Bad Wolf

Some children were building a tower with the tyres together outside, it was hard work as some tyres were very heavy! "It looks like a chimney" said one.  "I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down!" shouted another.  We went to get the Three Little Pigs Story box to help us with the story and pretended we were characters in the story.
